How to perform an MTR test on a Mac Imprimir

  • 4

MTR is a traceroute tool that tests the network connections or path between your physical location and your hosting server.

If you are a Mac you may already have MTR installed. If not you need to install MTR for Mac. MTR can be issued as a command in your Mac terminal. This tool is found under 'Utilities' on your Mac. To run MTR, simply type mtr followed by your server name or domain name or IP address. For example, if your web site name was 'mydomain.com', you would type: mtr mydomain.com

To start:

  1. Open up your Mac terminal,
  2. Type in mtr mydomain.com (change this to your domain name or server IP)
  3. Let it run for about 30 seconds then you may stop the test (CTRL-Z)
  4. Copy the result and send it to us via email so we can analyze it for you along with your WAN (ISP) IP address (which you can find by going to the website http://www.pingmedown.com)

If mtr is not already installed please refer to installing the following websites: Darwin PortsFink, or Homebrew.
